the rehearsal
A letter from your future self.
She's already written it.
You're just going to let her speak.
Find somewhere comfortable to write. There's no right way to do this and nothing to figure out.
You're not being graded. You're not even really the one writing.
She is.
If you have a notebook and pen nearby, this is a good one for handwriting. Something about the slower pace of it tends to let her through. But if typing feels more natural to you, that works too.
Before you begin, take a breath or two. You might light a candle, or close your eyes for a moment and just let her in.
She's not far. When you feel ready, pick up your pen.
Start with: Dear [your name]...
And then let her go. If you get stuck, let one of these nudge you forward:
Where are you as you write this?
What does it look, smell, feel like?
How does your body feel?
What does an ordinary morning look like now?
What are you no longer bracing for?
What no longer matters?
What has surprised you most about getting where you are?
What do you want me to know, the me of right now?
You don't need to answer all of these. You don't need to answer any of them if something else wants to come through. Just keep the pen moving and see what she has to say.
Want to try the other doors? Just this way…
